Enforcement Efforts are Working Where Funds & Efforts are Directed
Ongoing data collection, review,
and reporting demonstrates that in communities where funds and efforts are directed to
tobacco law enforcement, significant results are taking place in reducing the illegal
sales of tobacco to Texas youth.
As of
June 1st, with more
that 8,335 controlled buys, or stings, 626 tobacco retailers have been found in violation
of Texas' tobacco law restricting illegal tobacco sales to minor
children.
The latest tabulated "buy
rate" for enforcement of Texas' minors access to tobacco law,
as reported to Texas STEP, is:

This "buy rate" is for
the 12 month period of 06/01/2007 through 05/31/2008, which is
commonly known as the "2008 Synar Reporting Period".
This calculated rate is a
compilation of all Texas law enforcement activity reported to the Comptroller's Office via
Texas STEP and may not reflect activities or information not reported according to Texas
law.
