Comptroller's Tobacco Sales Warning
Signs
Senate Bill 55 requires each person who sells
cigarettes or tobacco products at retail or by vending machines post a warning notice
sign. The sign must be located so that it is conspicuous to all employees and customers
and close to the cash register, check-out stand, or vending machine where cigarettes or
tobacco products may be purchased.
The sign posted on or near the cash register
or check-out stand must be no less than 8-1/2 inches wide by 14 inches in length. The font
size for the statutory language that must appear on the sign must be no less than 14-point
type. In addition, a retailer may choose to display a 3 inch by 7 inch warning notice on
each cash register or check-out-out stand from which cigarettes or tobacco products are
sold.
